LONDON, 4 SEPTEMBER 2019 – Next Wednesday’s performances of hit West End musical Come From Away will also be a fundraising event for SINCE 9/11, the educational charity founded to provide free teaching resources on the events, causes and consequences of 9/11, an attempt – through education – to understand and prevent similar atrocities in the future.
Winner of 4 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, Come From Away has taken the West End by storm as well as continuing sold-out, record-breaking engagements on Broadway, across the USA and in Canada. This joyous new musical shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives.
SINCE 9/11 offers free educational programmes to secondary and primary schools across the UK developed in partnership with the world’s No1 ranked UCL Institute of Education.
Education and learning are the keys to a safe society, today and in the future. To that end it’s imperative that education resources like SINCE 9/11 are available for all young people throughout our schools and colleges.
Sir Simon Schama, University Professor of Art History and History at Columbia University, New York
This remarkable show’s key message – about the compassion of humanity – is central to our mission as a charity; that it’s only through the education of our children we can avoid a repeat of that terrible day 18 years ago.
By teaching the values of tolerance and respect for all faiths and religions contained in our programmes, we can help to foster a generation which is ready to reject extremism and build a more cohesive and peaceful society for us all.
Peter Rosengard, Founder and Chairman of SINCE 9/11
We are honoured to be supporting SINCE 9/11, a charity that aims to communicate tolerance and understanding through Education in schools across the country.

Since 2015, schools have had a legal requirement to teach the Fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for different faiths and beliefs. The SINCE 9/11 programmes are designed specifically to support both primary and secondary schools in teaching these values and are officially endorsed by the Department for Education and the Home Office.
