The starfish parable (KS2)

Parable of the starfish thrower to consider the impact of small acts.

An exploration of the parable of the starfish thrower aimed at younger students.  Students consider whether small acts of kindness can make a difference and create a starfish ‘beach’ of their own acts of kindness to display in your classroom.

Learning objectives:

  • Reflect on whether small acts of kindness matter
  • Identify a kindness given and received
  • Commit to one act of kindness and show collective impact

Tip: Run this as one continuous session or break up into two mini sessions – (1) reading, listening and discussing the story and (2) use paper starfish worksheet to create a beach poster.  Use during assembly, PSHE, for end-of week reflection or even during literacy.
