Simple kindness poetry (KS3)

Combine literacy and kindness to discuss a poem exploring kindness as an act of community and resistance.

An extended resource to explore kindness through poetry. Pupils
study the poem ‘Simple kindness’ by Teres Dana which likens
kindness to an act of resistance. Pupils are then challenged to write
their own poem about kindness.

The learning objectives are:

• To use poetry to explore the relationship between kindness and
  resistance.

Reading
Make inferences and refer to evidence in a poem.
Identify themes and ideas in a poem.
Writing
Plan, draft, edit and proof-read writing.
Use a wide vocabulary and figurative language for effect.
