Today, 11th September 2025, marks 24 years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 – a day that changed the world forever. We remember the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were taken that day, and we stand with the families and communities around the globe who continue to carry that grief.
The impacts of 9/11 are still felt deeply today and the tragedies continue. Since 9/11, thousands more people – many of whom were First Responders on the day and the in the immediate aftermath – have since died from 9/11-related cancers and illnesses, while many continue to live with the lasting physical and emotional scars. And the work is ongoing – earlier this summer, almost 24 years after the event, the remains of three more victims were finally reunited with their loved ones.
The reverberations of that day continues to shape societies, politics, and the way we understand extremism and its consequences.
Our Director, Yvonne, was privileged to join the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Institute of Educators in New York this summer, spending a week immersed in the personal stories of loss and pain from those impacted on the day. Built in the footprint of the towers, even the location carries the echoes of tragedy to this day. The Institute brought teachers together from across the USA, each of whom will now go back to their school districts to share the importance of teaching young people, none of whom were alive on 9/11, with others.
At SINCE 9/11, our mission remains clear: to ensure that the legacy of 9/11 is one of hope, resilience, and a commitment to building a more cohesive society. By working with schools and young people across the UK, we strive to challenge extremism, foster respect and understanding, and help new generations learn the lessons of that tragic day.
As we mark this anniversary, we remember, we reflect, and we reaffirm our commitment to a safer and more inclusive future.
