SINCE 9/11 is delighted to welcome eminent historian, Sir Simon Schama, as an official patron of the charity. Sir Simon Schama has previously endorsed SINCE 9/11 saying:
“Education and learning are the keys to a safe future for society, today and in the future. To that end it's imperative that education resources like 'SINCE 9/11' are available for all young people throughout our schools and colleges.”
Sir Simon Schama, who was in New York on the day of the September 11th attacks, has previously spoken passionately about the requirement for students to know what happened in the build-up to and on the day of 9/11. He is also an advocate for the teaching of tolerance to be incorporated into the education system.
Sir Simon Schama has long been a supporter of the SINCE 9/11 mission, giving an emotive speech at the unveiling of the Since 9/11 artwork in Battersea Park, Schama spoke of the importance of the artwork as being transformative and reflective.
Sir Simon Schama also spoke at the SINCE 9/11 Education Conference in 2017, providing a unique perspective on the history of conflict and the importance of societal inclusiveness, stating in his closing remarks:
"We have to contest civilisation's tendency to retreat into tribes of people who look like each other."
SINCE 9/11 is extremely grateful for Sir Simon Schama's support alongside our other patrons and supporters:
